Privacy Policy

At SmartUnitConverter (the "SmartUnitConverter", "we" or "us" or “our”), we take privacy seriously.  Our privacy policy policy (“Policy”) applies to your use of this website (the “Site”), browser extension, and other software and applications that you can access through the Site (collectively, the “Software”). With this Policy, we demonstrate our commitment to collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing your personally identifiable information (“PII”), which we aim to do fairly. 

Before using the Site or Software, you should read this Policy to understand our policies and practices. If you don’t agree with the terms of this Policy, you should not use the Website or Software.

Please note that the easiest way to ensure we do not maintain, share, or sell any of your PII is by uninstalling our browser extension per the instructions in Paragraph J. below. If you have uninstalled any browser extensions, we will not store any of your PII. 

 

A.    What We Collect

We collect certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information is technical and usage information and may include internet protocol (IP) addresses, the general, non-precise location where your computer or device is accessing the internet, your browser type, operating system, and information about how you navigate the site like the times you viewed certain pages, the links you clicked on, etc. 

When we collect information, we may use this information we collect to improve the performance of computer servers and to administer the Software. For example, this information may be used to analyze trends, track visitor movements, and gather broad demographic information that assists us in identifying visitor preferences. We may also use cookies. Cookies are pieces of data that a website transfers to a user’s hard drive for record-keeping purposes.

We do not track users when they cross over to third-party websites, and therefore, we do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals. 

Additionally, we may maintain aggregated data, de-identified data, and non-personally identifiable information about our users, and we may disclose the results of such information to our partners, service providers, advertisers and/or other third parties for our business purposes, including to maintain and improve our Software and to provide Linked Sites (as defined in our Terms).

Last, we may also collect technical and usage information to fulfill our legitimate interest in understanding how users use the Software, and to assist us in more effectively marketing our products and services.

 

B.    Information Sharing 

When we collect PII from you, it is stored in databases hosted by third party providers (cloud storage and retrieval companies) located in the United States. We occasionally hire other third parties to send communications on our behalf. We may send your PII to our third-party service providers and partners to assist us in providing the Software and in delivering Linked Sites.

Setting aside those limited purposes, we do not send your PII to third parties for unless: (a) you request or authorize it; (b) the information is provided to comply with the law (for example, to comply with a search warrant, subpoena or court order), enforce an agreement we have with you, or to protect our rights, property or safety, or the rights, property or safety of our employees or others; (c) to handle emergencies or Acts of God; or (d) to respond to disputes, claims, or to persons demonstrating legal authority to act on your behalf.

 

C.    Location

We are located in the United States, and the information we collect through the Software will be processed in the United States. Your PII is stored on the servers of the cloud-based database management services SmartUnitConverter engages, located in the United States. 

 

D.    Security and Storage

We always use commercially-reasonable efforts to secure your PII, but we can’t always guarantee that these efforts will be sufficient to protect against all efforts to gain unauthorized access to your information.

Any data we collect is also retained for as little time as necessary to accomplish legitimate business purposes. Exceptions may apply if we are required by law or in response to claims. 

 

E.    Updates and Modifications

We may revise or update this Policy occasionally. If we change the way we handle your information, we will notify you by posting the changes on the Site and changing the date on the top of this page. We will endeavor to provide additional notice in advance, such as by a disclaimer on the Site or an email if we have your email address, if we make material changes.

 

F.    Specific Privacy Rights

This Section applies only to United States residents. Please be advised that various US state laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 and the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (collectively, the “CCPA”), provide residents with certain rights regarding their PII.

Before granting any request below, you should know that we are required to evaluate whether the request is provided for under the state laws, as some rights may apply only to residents of certain states. Also, only you, or a person that you authorize to act on your behalf, may make a verifiable consumer request related to your personal information. As such, we cannot grant a request until we are able to identify which personal information is associated with you, as well as your state residency. The information you must provide depends on the type of request you make. 

We may also use a third-party verification service to verify your identity. We cannot respond to your request or provide you with personal information if we cannot verify your identity or authority to make the request and confirm the personal information relates to you. You may only make a verifiable consumer request for Access twice within a 12-month period.

 

If we are able to verify you, your rights may include:

Access Rights: You have the right to request that SmartUnitConverter disclose the categories and pieces of PII we collect, use, disclose, and sell, as well as the business purposes for collecting your information.

Deletion Request Rights: Under certain circumstances, you have the right to request that SmartUnitConverter delete any of your PII that we collected from you and retained over the preceding 12 months.

Opt-Out Rights: Because we may use advertising and analytics for targeted advertising purposes, you may have the right to direct SmartUnitConverter not to “sell” or “share” your PII at any time (the “right to opt-out”). 

Requests to Correct: You may have the right to request that SmartUnitConverter use commercially reasonable measures to correct any inaccurate information that we have about you.

Requests to Limit Use of Personal Information: Under certain state laws, you may direct SmartUnitConverter to only use your sensitive personal information (if applicable) for only those purposes that are necessary to perform our Software.

Non-Discrimination: We do not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights, consistent with various state laws.

We try to respond to all confirmed consumer requests within 30 days of receiving them, or as otherwise permissible under the applicable law. If we need more time, we will reach out to explain why.

Some states may allow residents to appeal a denial of a privacy-related request. If we decline to process your request, you may have a right to appeal by emailing . We may reject your request for appeal if the state in which you reside does not allow a right to appeal.

 

G.    European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom (UK) Rights

If you are physically located in the EEA or the UK, you can learn about your personal data rights in this section.

For purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the data controller. We are a private company located in the United States, and you can contact our Data Protection Officer at .

We only use, share, or collect your personal data (as defined in the GDPR) based on any of the below legal bases:

  1. Fulfill Service Obligations: We need your personal data to provide a service you request or fulfill a contractual responsibility we have to you. In most cases, this refers to when we make our Software available to you in accordance with our Terms of Use.
  2. Legitimate Interest: We have a legitimate interest to use your personal data in ways that you would expect such as to properly run our Software, improve the Software for you, advertise our Software, and protect our legal rights.
  3. Consent: We have your consent to use your personal data for a specific purpose presented to you before we collect it. You can withdraw any consent you give through options provided via the Software or by contacting our privacy team at .


You have certain rights related to your personal data which are listed below:

  1. Access: You have the right to ask for information about the personal data we hold, how it’s used, and with whom we share it;
  2. Portability: Where you provide us with personal data based on consent and it is reasonable for us to do so, you can ask us for a copy of it in a structured, machine-readable format and ask us to send this data to another data controller;
  3. Correction: You can ask us to correct any personal data that is out of date or inaccurate;
  4. Erase: In certain circumstances, you can ask us to delete your personal data that we store;
  5. Object: If we process your personal data based on a legitimate interest, you can object to our legitimate interest. We will honor the request except when we have an overriding interest.
  6. Restrict: You can ask us to stop or limit how we process your data while we respond to one of your requests.
  7. Withdraw Consent: If you provide us with personal data based on consent, you can withdraw your consent at any time. We will consider your request and respond within a reasonable time period as required by applicable law.


We will try to respond to requests as quickly as possible and no longer than 30 days, but some responses may take longer. Not all personal data is covered by the above rights, but we will always provide you with a response to your request. At times, we may require more information to confirm your identity before processing your request, or in cases where your request is unfounded, repetitive, or excessive, we may deny your request or charge a reasonable fee.

H.    Children’s Privacy

The Site and Software is not intended for children under 18 years of age. To be clear, no one under age 18 may provide any PII to SmartUnitConverter. If you are under 18, do not use or provide any information via the Site or Software to us. If we learn we have collected or received PII from a child under 18 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information. If you believe we might have any information from or about a child under 18, please contact us immediately.

We do not knowingly collect information about children under the age of 18.

We use cookies for various reasons. Some cookies are strictly necessary for us to provide services; other cookies enable us to conduct analytics, personalize your experience, or show you more relevant content and advertising. A list of the cookies used on our SIte are as follows: 

Extension Cookies:

  • Strictly Necessary Cookies: These cookies are essential for us to provide Services. These cookies include UID/Ticket ID, used to identify you and other users, and Session Data, used to keep track of when you close and reopen your desktop browser.
  • Functionality Cookies: Functionality cookies record preferences you’ve communicated to us and allow us to tailor the extension to you. For example, these cookies allow us to remember settings you have applied.
  • Performance/ Analytics Cookies: We use performance/analytics cookies to analyze how the extension is accessed, used, or is performing to provide you with a better user experience and to maintain, operate, and improve the extension. For example, these cookies help us:
    • Collect information about the general geolocation where users are located and what browsers they are using;
    • Determine how users were driven to install the extension, or when and why users uninstalled the extension;
    • Analyze the length of time users keep and use the extension;
    • Improve the Services by measuring any errors that occur; and
    • Conduct research and diagnostics.

Website Functionality Cookies: Functionality cookies record preferences you’ve communicated to us and allow us to tailor the Site and Services for you. For example, these cookies allow us to remember settings you have applied and store accessibility options.

You can refuse cookies via your browser settings or manually clear cookies within your browser, but doing so may affect your ability to use the Site and Services. 

 

J.    Uninstall Guidelines

Chrome Uninstall Instructions
Step 1: Right click on the SmartUnitConverter icon at the top right of your Chrome browser. 
Step 2: Click Uninstall.
Step 3: Close your Chrome browser completely and reopen it. SmartUnitConverter should now be removed from your Chrome browser. 

Edge Uninstall Instructions
Step 1: Right click on the SmartUnitConverter icon at the top right of your Edge browser.
Step 2: Select “Remove from Microsoft Edge.”
Step 3: In the drop down, click “Remove” to confirm the uninstallation.
